The People's Republic of Bangladesh, commonly known as Bangladesh (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ), is located in the north of the Bay of Bengal; a small part of the southeastern mountainous area borders Myanmar, and the rest borders India. The vast majority of the land is the alluvial plain of the Jamuna River, and the area of the sea in the Bay of Bengal is roughly equal to the land area. 98% of Bangladesh's population speaks Bengali, and the state religion is Islam; with a population of 170 million, it ranks third among Muslim countries in the world, second only to Indonesia and Pakistan, and has a population density of 1,138 people per square kilometer (ranking seventh in the world). The largest city is the capital Dhaka, and the second largest city is Chittagong, which is also the largest port in the country.
