EPO launches AI platform for automatic CPC classification
EPO launched an artificial intelligence (AI) automatic classification platform on November 7, 2023, which can easily find the appropriate classification name in the CPC classification number.
Users can use this AI platform to input text descriptions in English, French or German, and the appropriate CPC classification will be predicted and returned in less than one second, making the CPC classification system easier to use.
CPC is a patent classification system jointly developed by the EPO and USPTO more than ten years ago. It is currently used by 38 national or regional patent offices for classification.
CPC has more than 250,000 classification numbers. Most of today's patents are indexed into this classification model. Therefore, appropriate use of these classification numbers can greatly improve the accuracy of patent searches.
The CPC symbols expected by the system will be displayed in the CPC classification table together with each subordinate level. After clicking on the suggested classification number, the user will be linked to Espacenet to retrieve documents of the corresponding classification. In addition, advanced settings allow users to adjust the set interval and display the expected adjustment date of the classification number.
