Accelerate the trademark registration process! The Brazilian Intellectual Property Office launches a new fast track to promote the reform of Brazilian trademark registration

On August 7, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) launched an accelerated trademark examination procedure, aiming to speed up the examination process of trademark applications and significantly shorten the time to obtain a final decision.

Trademark applicants who meet the following qualifications may request accelerated trademark examination:

• Individuals aged 60 or above
• Individuals with serious illness or disability
• Companies registered under the Inova Simples model
• Cases related to public policy, court proceedings, public funding releases, or products/services related to patents under expedited review
• Science, Technology and Innovation Institutions (ICTs)
• Involving public interest or national emergency

In some cases, an application for accelerated examination procedure is subject to the payment of an official fee. Whether the accelerated examination procedure is granted depends on the supporting documentation required by the BPTO.
