EPO Quality Report for the third quarter of 2024

Recently, the European Patent Office (EPO) released its quality report and related indicators for the third quarter of 2024. The EPO's quality report covers all aspects of patent applications in search, examination, and opposition, which means the EPO's progress in the digitalization process. According to data released by the EPO, user satisfaction with the EPO in the search and examination stages is 80% and 78% respectively. EPO data show that in 2023, the number of examination notices for EP patent applications before authorization was 1.61, and the authorization rate was 60%, while in 2022, the average processing time of the EPO before authorization was 24.9 months.
