EU design applications will no longer be filed through the DPMA

According to Article 35(1) of Regulation (EC) No 6/2002, as amended, from 1 May 2025, applications for Community designs may only be filed through the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). As a result, from 1 May 2025, it will no longer be possible to file an application for registration of a Community design at the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA).

Furthermore, from the same date, Notice No. 1/2003 of the President of the DPMA concerning the receipt and forwarding of Community design applications by the DPMA is deemed to be annulled.
