Recently, the Qatar Trademark Office issued a new notice on September 15, 2025, requiring all trademark applications to strictly comply with the provisions on the classification of goods and services in the eleventh edition of the Nice Classification. This requirement is consistent with Regulation No. 7/2014 of the GCC Law.
In addition, trademark applications are no longer allowed to select class titles or use descriptions and expressions such as "all goods and services within that class". Applicants can manually select all goods and services listed in the 11th edition of the Nice Classification.
The new regulations clearly state that all new trademark applications must include a detailed and targeted list of goods and services, which must be accurately described using the terms defined in the 11th edition of the Nice Classification. Notably, even if a specific good or service is not explicitly listed in the registration, it still enjoys full legal trademark protection as long as it falls within the registered class. This means that even if different goods or services fall within the same class, legal protection remains valid, eliminating the possibility of registering similar or identical trademarks within the same class.
