Brazil's National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) now fully electronic! Update on international patent application fees

Starting from September 3, 2025, the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property, which serves as the PCT international application receiving office, international search authority (ISA) and international preliminary examination authority (IPEA), will only accept international applications and related subsequent documents in electronic form, and will no longer accept international applications and related subsequent documents submitted in paper form.

The updated information on PCT application fees at INAPI Brazil is as follows:

• Search fee: BRL 2,510
• Additional cost: BRL 2,010
• Preliminary examination fee: BRL 930
• Additional cost: BRL 540
• Late filing fee for preliminary examination: the amount set by BRL in accordance with Rule 58bis.2
• Opposition fee: BRL 1,810
• Late submission fee for sequence listing: BRL 260
