New Zealand is an island country in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. The country consists geographically of two main landmass, the northern and southern islands, and many smaller islands. New Zealand is about 1,500 kilometers (900 miles) east of Australia, across the Tasman Sea and about 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) south of the Pacific island nations of New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga.
