DKPTO conducts only formality examination of utility model patent applications. It can be submitted in a foreign language, but the Danish translation must be completed within one month from the filing date. The applicant/anyone can submit a request for examination during the validity period of the patent, and DKPTO will conduct substantive examination after paying the corresponding fee. Method Claim are not allowed.

• Licensing Fee: None.
• Annuity: After the patent is granted, the annual fee shall be paid year by year starting from the fourth year of the application date. The annual fee can be postponed and paid within 6 months after the expiration date at the latest, but a 50% penalty must be paid at the same time.

Validation of European Patent in EPO member states: within 3 months from the date of grant of the European patent.

• Grant fee: The granting official fee must be paid within 3 months after receiving the granted notification from the Patent Office, and the annual fee for the year of granted must be paid at the same time.
• Annuity: The annual fee shall be paid year by year from the first year since the filing date, and the subsequent annual fee shall be paid on the day before the announcement date of each payment year. If the annual fee is overdue, the payment can be postponed within a grace period of 6 months, but a late fee will be charged.

• Grant fee: It will be paid together with the granted announcement fee one month after receiving the granted notice, and the payment will be doubled if it is overdue.
• Annuity: The renewal fee payment period is the corresponding date of the application date in the year, and can be paid within the last year of the current validity period. Payment can still be made within 6 months from the overdue date, subject to a penalty.
