On May 1, 2020, IPOS launched the SG Patent Fast Track Program to support the acceleration of domestic patent applications in Singapore in all technology fields. In order to better help and support entrepreneurs and businesses in establishing and managing IP portfolios and commercialization, the program has been expanded to include trademark registration and design applications on September 1, 2020, and has been extended until 2024 April 30.
The accelerated examination timetable for different types of patent applications is as follows:
- Simple patents can be granted within 6 months at the fastest. Indirect patent applications can be granted within 9 months at the fastest.
- A direct trademark application can obtain a trademark certificate within 3 months at the earliest. Non-simple trademark applications can obtain a trademark registration certificate within 6 months at the fastest.
- Designs can be authorized within 1 month at the earliest.
*SG IP FAST is applicable to patent applications in all technical fields.
* According to SG IP FAST, a maximum of 10 patent applications per month can be requested for accelerated examination, and the number of patent applications per entity (individual or business) is up to 2. IPOS will reset the upper limit on the first day of each month. However, there is no limit on the number of requests for accelerated examination of trademark registrations and designs.
