Five years ago, in 2017, the Japan Patent Office JPO issued the "Action Plan for the Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology", planning to use more effective artificial intelligence to improve the work efficiency and quality of JPO, and it will be revised every year starting from 2017 program and promote it.
The program has been in operation for 5 years so far. During these 5 years, JPO has developed more automated tools, such as automated patent classification tools for foreign patent documents, patent document reordering tools, trademark image retrieval tools, etc., and provided them to JPO Examiners conducted a large number of trials to improve the work efficiency of the JPO.
2022-2026 Edition AI Action Plan
In view of the rapid development of AI technology in recent years, JPO has formulated a new version of the 2022-2026 version of the AI action plan to discuss how to use artificial intelligence more effectively in JPO's review work in the next five years. According to this plan, JPO will continue to Increase the popularization and application of AI technology in review work, and strive to cooperate with scientific and technological forces outside JPO in the following eight projects:
