On February 8, the China Development Planning Research Institute of Tsinghua University and Deloitte China jointly released the research report on the "International Exchange Center Cities Index 2022" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report").

Shanghai is China's largest convention and exhibition city.

In 2022, the number of exhibitions approved by the Shanghai Association of the International Exhibition Industry (UFI) will rank third among global communication center cities.

Shanghai is fully serving the country to accelerate the realization of the goal of high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement, and continues to make efforts in strengthening the innovation source function of the international science and technology innovation center, and the pace of construction of the science and technology innovation center continues to accelerate.

The five-year average total number of PCT international patent applications from 2014 to 2018 ranks 7th in the global international communication center cities, and the number of highly cited scientific and technological papers in the past five years from 2017 to 2021 ranks 9th in the global communication center cities.

At the same time, Shanghai's urban entrepreneurial environment has also been greatly improved. In 2022, Shanghai's Global Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Index will rank seventh among cities in the world's international communication centers.

In terms of digital economic development, in recent years, Shanghai has further promoted the digital transformation of the city, and accelerated the construction of digital base infrastructure such as public intelligent computing power centers, land, sea, air and space integrated network systems, and "cloud, network, edge and end" integrated big data centers.

In 2022, Shanghai's mobile broadband connection speed will rank 6th among the world's communication center cities, and its fixed broadband connection speed will rank 13th, providing a solid foundation for the digital economy to become the main engine driving Shanghai's economic development.

The "Report" pointed out that an international communication center city is a city that has the functions of connecting and serving the world, can gather high-end international elements, and play an important role in global affairs. It is a key node and a hub platform in the international communication network. As the world's first international communication center city index, the "Report" pays more attention to the city's ability and potential to promote global political, economic and cultural exchanges; its influence and contribution to global development, international affairs and human civilization; the concentration of high-end element resources and Global configuration capabilities, as well as the institutions, platforms and rules that carry this capability.

Based on the three dimensions of attractiveness, influence and connectivity, the "Report" constructs an evaluation framework for international communication center cities consisting of 11 second-level indicators and 25 third-level indicators, and evaluates 37 typical cities around the world , describes and compares the comprehensive ranking of the development characteristics of different cities. Among the 37 cities participating in the evaluation, Shanghai ranks 16th comprehensively, and ranks 2nd in mainland China. Among them, China Unicom ranks 9th, 16th in influence, and 29th in attractiveness. From the perspective of secondary indicators, Shanghai ranks first in business exchanges (4th), business-friendly environment (7th), digital network (7th), technological innovation (9th), tourism consumption (11th), and economic development (11th). ) and other aspects, reflecting Shanghai’s goal of “basically building an excellent global city around 2035” in recent years, and the remarkable achievements it has made in the construction of the “five centers” of international economy, finance, trade, shipping, and technological innovation.

From the analysis of 25 specific indicators, the number of headquarters of Fortune Global 500 companies (2021) and the Global Financial Center Index (GFCI) (2022) both rank Shanghai No. 6, reflecting Shanghai's status as an international economic center and The comprehensive strength of the international financial center.
