Turkish trademarks adopt the Nice Classification, and applications for one mark and multiple categories are accepted. In Turkey, any name, text, shape, color, letter, number, sound, shape or packaging of goods, and their combination can be registered as traditional trademarks such as commodity trademarks, service trademarks, joint trademarks, series trademarks, and color trademarks, as well as It can be registered as non-traditional trademarks such as sound trademarks, three-dimensional trademarks, color trademarks and sports trademarks.

5. Turkish trademark registration application process:
- Generally, the application will be accepted about one week after submission, and the Turkish Intellectual Property Office will conduct a formal and substantive examination of the application. If the review fails, the official will issue a rejection notice and require the applicant to respond to the issues within the required time limit. After passing the review, it will enter the announcement objection period (2 months from the announcement date). During this period, any interested parties and prior rights holders who have objections to the application may raise objections to the application. If no objection is raised during the announcement period or the objection is not established, the registration will be approved.
6. Trademark cancellation
- Trademark registration in Turkey may be canceled if it has not been used for five years from the date of registration.
7. Trademark objections
- Oppositions to Turkish trademark applications can be filed within two months from the date of publication.
8. Authorization, validity period and trademark renewal
- Turkish trademark registration is valid for ten years from the date of application. Registration is renewable for 10 years. Renewal applications can be made up to six months before the expiry date. Turkish trademarks can also be renewed within six months of the renewal expiry date. A simple signed POA is sufficient.
9. Average time for trademark authorization
- If the registration goes smoothly, the average time from submission of application to trademark registration in Turkey is 10-12 months.
10. Madrid registration
- The time limit for responding to a provisional refusal of an international registration in Turkey is 2 months from the date of WIPO's notification of provisional refusal to the applicant. To confirm the notification date, some evidence needs to be submitted. This time limit has not been extended. The reply language is Turkish. Foreign applicants must designate a local representative to submit the response. You can appeal the Office's final decision within 2 months of receipt of notification.
