Effective April 18, 2023, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has implemented electronic patent certificates (eGrants), allowing patentees and the public to immediately view and print published and granted patents in the Patent Center through December To date, the USPTO has issued more than 200,000 electronic patent certificates.

Following the electronic patent certificate, starting from January 30, 2024, the USPTO will also begin to issue corrected patent certificates electronically, which will allow the patentee and the public to immediately view and print the corrected patent certificate through the Patent Center.

Previously, the certificate of correction was paper and mailed to the patentee’s mailing address on file with the USPTO. When the USPTO issues a paper correction certificate, it enters and adds the image of the correction certificate to the patent image in the patent database, and the patent that obtains the correction certificate will also be published in the official gazette.

However, from January 30, 2024 or later, the paper method of correction certificate will be changed to electronic method, and the procedures and standards for requesting correction of patent certificate will not change.
