On November 16, 2023, the Romanian government approved the UPCA draft law aimed at approving the Unified Patent Court Agreement. The next step is to submit the draft law to the Romanian Parliament for approval. This means that Romania will soon implement the European unified patent.

Currently, 24 EU member states have signed the UCPA, 17 of which have already ratified it. The remaining 7 countries are expected to ratify the UCPA in the next few years. Romania is currently in the process of ratification, which means it will become the 18th country in Europe to implement the European Unitary Patent.
