2024 U.S. Patent Application Writing Competition
Recently, the USPTO announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will hold the finals of the 2024 National Patent Application Drafting Competition this month to popularize U.S. patent law to contestants through competition and cultivate their patent application drafting skills.
The competition will set up hypothetical technical solutions for the contestants so that they can complete important steps of patent applications such as prior art search, writing of specifications and claims, etc. The review panel composed of patent examiners, patent lawyers and well-known guest judges will evaluate the patentability of the patent applications written by the contestants and select the final winners.
The 15 teams that had registered for the competition in November 2023 participated in the preliminary round on March 9, 2024. The regional winners selected will participate in the national finals in April 2024.
