On May 29, 2024, the Estonian Patent Office (EPA) held a special meeting in the capital Tallinn to mark its 105th anniversary. Representatives from the European Patent Office (EPO), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and national patent offices of the EPO member states attended the meeting.
European Patent Office President António Campinos praised Estonia for having the highest number of startups per capita in Europe and for its impressive digital innovation.
EPO President António Campinos also praised the EPA for its achievements as an EPO member state, including the Estonian Patent Office becoming the first national patent office to fully transition to the ansera-based artificial intelligence search tool developed by the EPO. In addition, Estonia was one of the first countries to adopt the International Patent Classification.
