The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and WIPO will present the Gawad Yamang Isip (GYI) Awards to Filipino inventors, creators and organizations in May 2024. The GYI Awards are the most prestigious awards in the Philippine intellectual property community, honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to innovation, creativity and business.
The theme of the 2024 Philippine GYI is [Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development: Building a Shared Future with Innovation and Creativity]. This year's GYI awards are divided into five fields, namely inventions, designs, performing arts, visual arts and trademarks.

In addition, the first prize in the youth category was won by MIMAROPA Regional Science High School, whose invention was about "Chitosan film made from Xylem-acetosa and Philippine blue-eyed sea urchin waste for wastewater filtration". The second prize was won by the Technological University of the Philippines, which used ESP32 to make a low-cost, low-power, super worm automatic separation system that can perform real-time visual monitoring and multi-plastic biodegradation through computer programs. The third prize was won by Mapúa University's "Automatic Horizontal Transport Bracket".
