In just four years of service at the USPTO, Jerry MA has shaped the USPTO's leadership in implementing artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technology solutions, and the AI solutions he leads cover all areas of intellectual property at the USPTO. This month, in recognition of his work benefiting innovators across the country, the USPTO awarded him the Public Service Leadership Award. Jerry MA also became the first USPTO employee to receive this award, which is commonly known as the "Sammies®" and is given to recognize outstanding contributions to the federal government.
Jerry Ma’s important work includes developing artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) tools to support USPTO examiners in examining the more than 400,000 patent applications the USPTO receives each year, and his solutions also influence USPTO policy making.
Jerry MA, who is only 27 years old, is considered to be at the forefront of formulating new policies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and patents, artificial intelligence and copyrights, and other forms of intellectual property. The USPTO highly appreciates his outstanding contribution to reshaping the USPTO's intellectual property policy system.
