Cambodia launched a comprehensive Intellectual Property Rights Registration System (IPRRS) on September 1, 2024, aimed at improving the efficiency of customs operations and strengthening enforcement against counterfeit goods and parallel imports.
IPRRS allows for efficient recording of trademarks, geographical indications and copyrights, enabling customs officers to quickly access critical data. This simplified procedure is designed to enhance the detection of illegal imports and counterfeit items and facilitate timely intervention by Cambodian Customs.
The system currently supports two types of filings, one for various intellectual property rights and the other for exclusive distribution. The trial operation of this system marks an important step forward in Cambodia’s efforts to improve intellectual property enforcement and provide substantial benefits to trademark and brand owners, facilitating cooperation between rights owners and Cambodian customs authorities.
