Patent granted in Europe valid in Finland

If a European patent is to be effective in Finland, the effectiveness procedures must be completed within 3 months from the date of the authorization announcement, including:

• Pay the effective publication fee
• Submit a Finnish translation of the claims and the title of the invention
• If the specification in a European granted patent is in English, no translation is required. If the specification is in German or French, it must be translated into English or Finnish (including the drawings)
• If the patentee's native language is Swedish, the translation may be in Swedish
• Write text in a single column using 1.5 line spacing
• Make sure you choose a font size that is large enough so that capital letters are at least 0.28 cm tall (for example, Times New Roman 12 or Courier New 12)
• Margins must be within the following ranges: 2.5 - 4 cm on the left, 2 - 4 cm on the top, 2 - 3 cm on the bottom and right
• The validity announcement fee must be paid within 3 months after the European patent is granted.
• After the European patent is granted, annual fees must be paid to the PRH. The first year's annual fees may be due during the period when the patent is granted, and the payment deadline is the last day of the third month after the month in which the patent is granted. For example, if the application is submitted in February and the grant announcement is in January of the following year, the deadline for paying the first year's annual fees to the PRH is the last day of April. Thereafter, the annual fees will always be paid on the last day of February.
