  • via Paris Convention: 12 months from earliest priority date.
  • via Nationalization of PCT: 30 months from the earliest priority date.

MOIC conducts formality examination and substantive examination for invention patent applications. A request for substantive examination should be submitted after passing through the formality examination, and other national patent offices other than Bahrain can be selected for examination.

The novelty grace period can be enjoyed within 12 months from the filing date/priority date in the following cases:

  • Disclosures made by the applicant or with the permission of the applicant.

  • If the disclosure occurs in an officially held or recognized international exhibition.

    Applicants should submit disclosure details when filing a patent application with MOIC.

4 years

  • Grant fee: The publication fee includes the grant fee.
  • Annuity: Annuity should be paid year by year from the 2nd year of the filing date. If the Annuity is overdue, it can be paid within a grace period of 6 months, and at the same time pay 160.00 Bahraini dinar (large entity) penalty.

Reinstatement of priority is accepted on grounds of "due care."
