On June 22, 2023, Canada passed Bill C-47 to amend the current patent law and introduce a term adjustment PTA to compensate CIPO for the losses caused to right holders due to delayed authorization. It will be implemented in January 2025. It officially comes into effect on the 1st. This provision will apply to Canadian patent applications submitted on or after December 1, 2020. At the same time, the term of the Supplementary Protection Certificate System CSP and the term of the Preferential Trade Agreement will also start to be implemented at the same time.
