Vietnam trademark registration application step by step

Step 1: Search

• Before filing a trademark application in Vietnam, it is recommended to conduct a preliminary search to ensure that the trademark has not already been registered by another entity.
• Time: 2-4 weeks

Step 2: Submit

• Submit an application to the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IPVN). The application must include the documents required for trademark registration in Vietnam

Step 3: Review

• VIPO will conduct both formal examination and substantive examination.
• Time: 9-12 months

Step 4: Announcement and Objection

• Once a trademark passes the review, it will be published in the Vietnam Official Gazette and third parties will be allowed to file objections.
• Time: 2-3 months

Step 5: Registration and issuance of trademark certificate

• If there is no objection, VIPO will issue a registration certificate. The trademark is valid for 10 years from the date of application and can be renewed indefinitely.
• Time: 1-2 months

Under normal circumstances, the total time for trademark registration in Vietnam is estimated to be 16-18 months.
