According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in the "World Intellectual Property Indicators Report 2024", Indonesia is the country with the largest increase in industrial design applications in the world in 2023, reaching 37.3%, ranking first.
Over the past three years, the number of IP applications recorded by the DGIP has continued to grow. In 2022, Indonesia received a total of 4,875 industrial design applications, of which 3,533 were domestic applications and 1,341 were foreign applications. In 2023, the number of industrial design applications increased to 6,326, of which 4,850 were domestic applications and 1,476 were foreign applications. In 2024, the number of industrial design applications in Indonesia increased to 7,926, of which 5,827 were domestic applications and 2,099 were foreign applications. Most applicants are from universities.
According to DGIP data, the fields of design in 2023-2024 include transportation, packaging, furniture and fashion products. This reflects the growing need of creative industries to protect the uniqueness of their designs amid increasingly fierce competition.
