UAE Ministry of Economy launches new roadmap to promote Green IP registration

Recently, the UAE Ministry of Economy launched a new roadmap to promote the registration of green intellectual property (Green IP), which will bring new vitality to the field of patent applications, especially green technology. The UAE Ministry of Economy has launched a new roadmap to accelerate the registration of green intellectual property (Green IP) to support innovation in the fields of sustainability and circular economy. The initiative significantly reduces the approval time for green and sustainable-related patents from 1-2 years to just 3 months, and in some cases 6 months. In addition, the program also includes fee reductions for eligible applicants to encourage the participation of individuals, companies, universities and research institutions.

The roadmap aims to increase the proportion of green patents to 8% of total patent registrations, a move that is in line with the country's efforts to strengthen the intellectual property ecosystem, promote green innovation and improve its ranking in the Global Innovation Index. The implementation plan will work with local environmental stakeholders and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to ensure rapid registration and strong legal protection of green innovations.

The UAE's new roadmap significantly shortens the approval time for green patents. This means that companies and individuals engaged in green technology innovation will have the opportunity to obtain patent protection in a shorter period of time and seize market opportunities.
